The 10th Kahungunu Fish Hook Summit took place on Thursday 20 May 2021 at the Napier Conferences & Events Centre, Marine Parade, Napier. This time last year, the event was deferred due to COVID-19, but did it, we held the 10th Fish Hook Summit. https://www.kahungunu.iwi.nz/fish-hook-2021

The purpose of the Kahungunu Fish Hook Summit is to provide an opportunity for Ngāti Kahungunu whānau, hapū, to meet, reignite our ties, share and celebrate our aspirations and achievements of the past year, gain insights from eachother, fortify eachother to continue on the great mahi ahead to enhance the mana and wellbeing of our whenua, our waterways, our marae and our people.

It is no surprise that all Taiwhenua had similar reports, sharing the joys and survival of COVID-19, marae aspirations and activities taking place in their respective rohe. It was very inspiring listening to the presentations. A full report will be put onto our website within the next fortnight.

We were fortunate to hear from GNS scientists, ecologists and researchers who continue to investigate and share information about our waterways. Recordings of each presenter will be posted on our website within the next fornight.

After each presentation we were inspired by the waiata of Kahungunu story teller and musician Pereri King. Kahungunu wahine and emcee extraordinaire Crystal Edwards AKA Kiino Krystal, kept the days proceedings moving to keep to our tight 7 hour programme.

Kahungunu Environment and Natural Resources Director Ngaio Tiuka and Senior Analyst Shade Smith were pleased with the days event. They have a great task ahead of them to continue to inspire the work of each Taiwhenua.

Iwi Chairman Ngahiwi Tomoana summed up the day and included the positive Government Budget announcement that will support our efforts as we unitedly move forward.
