New Chief Executive
A robust process to fill this position took place and we are pleased to make the appointment public.
Heretaunga Tamatea Settlement Trust announced today that Dr Darryn Russell has been appointed new CE of the post-settlement entity HTST. An experienced business leader, Darryn will succeed Liz Munroe and assume responsibilities in August. Long-serving CE, Liz Munroe had early on indicated that she would not be seeking to renew her contract. Liz has worked with our organisations; He Toa Takitini and Heretaunga Tamatea Settlement Trust, since 2009 where she had fulfilled a number of roles including Project Manager and Chief Negotiator of our claim.
Darryn Russell is Ngai Tahu ki Ōtākou and is dad to two sons. He has a background in community development, particularly iwi development, stating that belief in communities informs his approach to work. Resilience, integrity and honesty are all features of his practise along with a hands-on approach to leadership within and external to the organisations he has worked with. Darryn will bring strengths to his role as CE from his experiences across commercial, philanthropic, local, regional and natural agencies, government and non-government appointments. Darryn has resigned from his position as Assistant Vice-Chancellor Māori, Pacific and Equity at the University of Canterbury to join Heretaunga Tamatea Settlement Trust.
While at the University of Canterbury, Darryn Russell has (among many other responsibilities and achievements) developed and implemented an inaugural strategy for Māori Development, provided strategic advice and leadership in Māori development and bi-culturalism, developed and maintained relationships across a wide range of stakeholders, personalities and structures. Darryn is also Director for other companies and chair or committee member of several boards.
