He aha te Mahuru Māori?
He wero te Mahuru Māori ki te kōrero i te roanga atu o Mahuru. E taea ana te kotahi hāora o te rā, te haurua rā o te wiki, te kotahi rā o te wiki, te kotahi wiki o te marama, te katoa rānei o te marama, kei a koe te tikanga. E pai ana te kōrero, te waiata, te tuhituhi, me whakapāpā ki tāu e pīrangi nei, engari me reo Māori.
Ko te aronga o Mahuru Māori, kia horapa te reo i roto i ngā āhuatanga katoa i ngā mahi o te ia rā. Ko te mea i tīmata hei whakamātautanga noa iho i te 2014, kua hurihia hei kaupapa ā-tau me te rongonui haere – mai i tētehi tokorua i te 2014, ki te 5000 tāngata kō atu i tērā tau. Mahuru Māori is fast approaching, which means people from all over Aotearoa will kōrero te reo Māori throughout the month of September. We hope you’ll join us.
What is Mahuru Māori?
Mahuru Māori is a challenge to kōrero te reo Māori during the month of September. It could be for just an hour per day, half a day per week, one day a week, one whole week or for the whole month – it’s up to you. And you can speak, sing, write or communicate in any way you like, as long as it’s in te reo Māori.
The aim of Mahuru Māori is to normalise te reo Māori in everyday life. What began as a social experiment in 2014 has now become a yearly event that’s fast gaining popularity – from two participants in 2014, to over 5000 participants last year. Let’s try and at least double that this year, and get more people speaking te reo Māori than ever before!
