The WAI 262 Claim is currently going through the parliamentary process after three decades of being on the ‘too hard’ basket’ because of its complexity and far-reaching take. Ngāti Kahungunu is one of the claimants along with others who put forward the claim in the first instance. Known colloquially as the Flora and Fauna claim, it is also known as the ‘Mother of all claims’ due to its size, importance and potential to impact on every part of government and cultural propriety.
Consultation by the claimant alliance is happening soon with presentations from the Lead Counsel for the claim and others and hui within Heretaunga to get feedback from marae hapū whānau mandate for the path ahead.
