Iwi around Aotearoa have a traditional maxim that they are renown for and Ngati Kahugunu is famed for manaaki ki ngā tāngata.  This derived from the ability to provide for manuhiri  from the  bountiful whenua and moana of their rohe.  The tradition of taking exemplary care of people, feeding and entertaining them is a standard that is aspired to today, on the marae, in whare across the tribal rohe. 

Even if whānau, marae, hapū, are struggling at times it is a natural aspiration to give what they have in order for others to experience the highest level of Manaaki they can.

 Over time Ngati Kahungunu iwi Incorporated has cultivated community relationships to resource its people in times of need. From the celebratory Matatini kapa haka festival in 2017 to the COVID-19 virus in 2020, the iwi, marae and whānau have responded and are upholding their tradition of manaakitanga.
